National Geographic Creates History, Puts A 9-Year-old Transgender On Its Magazine Cover

National Geographic will kick off 2017 with something that it has never done before — featuring a transgender person on its magazine cover.

 

The January issue of the magazine will carry a picture of 9-year-old Avery Jackson on its cover in a special issue titled ‘Gender Revolution’.

 

The cover photo will also accompany a quote from Avery which reads, “The best thing about being a girl is, now I don’t have to pretend to be a boy.”

The Nat Geo magazine told that Avery is the right choice for this milestone as she has been a representative of the transgender people who are becoming growingly visible.
