Seven Dead, Several Trapped As Coal Mine Caves-In In Jharkhand

 

As many as seven people have been found dead after a cave-in took place in an opencast coal mine at Rajmahal area of Eastern rpt Eastern Coalfields Ltd located at Godda district of Jharkhand. The State Disaster Management Department confirmed that the incident took place at 8:30 PM on Thursday.

 

Speaking about the same, RR Mishra, CMD of ECL confirmed stating, “So far, bodies of seven miners have been recovered from the mine. Rescue work is on.” However, some 40 more workers are feared to be trapped under the debris.

 

Rescue work took quite long to begin given the fig situation which aggravated all the more problems. The rescued miners were taken to the nearest hospital at Mahagama in Godda. Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das has been keeping a close eye on the developments on the incident. He has also asked the officials to expedite the rescue process.  In addition, he also announced assistance of Rs. 2 Lakh for the families of the miners who lost their lives in the cave-in incident.

 

PM Modi took to Twitter to express his sadness over the loss. His tweet read, “Saddened by the loss of lives at a mine in Jharkhand. My prayers are with those trapped inside. Spoke to CM Raghubar Das on the situation."
