Kick-starting election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Meerut on Saturday. The BJP hopes to repeat its 2014 Lok Sabha performance, which got it 72 of the state's 80 seats.
The BJP has not yet declared its chief ministerial candidate but is relying on its star campaigner PM Modi and the anti-incumbency. The party is also hoping to get a upper hand following the internal feud in the Samajwadi Party.
The rally is part of a 12 rally series of the BJP that are to take place throughout the state ahead of the crucial assembly polls. The Meerut rally is part of a two rally campaign before the first phase of elections.
