Check out five scary critters that you’ll want to stay far, far away from if you ever encounter them in the wild. You might be surprised by what you find out!
Number Five: Elephants. Elephants are big animals, and despite their generally gentle nature, they are also incredibly deadly. Elephants use up to five tons of fighting weight and kill more than 500 people every single year. They behave aggressively when they are scared or trying to defend their calves.
Number Four: Crocodiles. Crocodiles are one of the most feared animals in the water, and it’s no surprise because they kill more than 2,000 people every year! Their large teeth and ability to sneak up on their prey allow them to sneak up on people without them ever realizing it.
Number Three: Scorpions. Coming in third on our list of the world’s deadliest animals are scorpions, with a death toll of more than 5,000 people every year. Scorpions are small, sneaky creatures that pack quite the punch. Their venom liquefies the organs of their prey so that they can suck it out afterward. While a scorpion sting won’t liquefy your entire body, it will kill you if you don’t get treated for it.
Number Two: Snakes. Tack on an extra zero to the scorpion’s death toll, and you’ll have the snake’s. That’s right – snakes kill more than 50,000 people every single year. While snakes are not necessarily human hunters, they are natural heat seekers, and when provoked or bothered, they will strike. The poison in their fangs and muscular bodies (when they’re large enough) can be enough to kill a vulnerable human under the right circumstances.
Number One: Mosquitos. Mosquitos themselves aren’t dangerous, but it’s what they carry that is so dangerous. Mosquitos are responsible for transmitting many communicable diseases (like malaria) that can incite plagues across entire countries, and even continents. Mosquitos are responsible for more than 627,000 deaths every year.
