From Stardom to Obscurity, Doping Has Changed Lives of Several Sportspersons

A report on global doping statistics released by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) states that India is at third position worldwide with 96 cases of doping violations being reported in 2014.
 
Doping by athletes is not a new phenomenon, but the number of offenders is at an alarming high in the recent past. National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has been trying to make athletes aware of misuse of stimulants but very little seems to have changed.
 
Not only this, there are several sportspersons who are repeated offenders, which show that they are ready to go to any extent in a bid to win a medal, even in low-key event.
 
Though the trend is distressing, but there are several instances that prove that some athletes – who fell prey to doping and even got banned – fought all odds and made an amazing comeback. However, there are certain players which keep on using banned substances like anabolic steroids and were ultimately banned for life.
 
At a time when India is trying hard to improve its abysmal record in the sport, such incidents surely impact the tally as quite a few athletes have been stripped off their medal.
