Instagram Changed its Logo and the Internet is Losing its Mind

Now every time you try to reach your favorite photo sharing app, you will no longer see the faithful vintage camera appear on your home screen. Instagram has changed its logo (the one with the retro camera) to a splotch of fuchsia and creamsicle that is minimalistic, colorful and much more ‘digital’.

The internet loses it every time a popular brand changes its icon and something similar happened when Instagram ditched its old-school logo for a new mobile-friendly and animated design. Calling it everything from ‘boring’ and ‘horrible’ to ‘ugly’ and ‘trash’ the internet is completely freaking out. Remember what happened when they tried to revamp the Twitter logo the last time?

Instagram said in a blog post that they are also changing the logos for Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse. Besides changing the look of the photo sharing platform and related apps, the company has also made changes to the actual app. “The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app,” reads the post.

The new logo makes your screen bleed in purple, pink and orange, adding a pop of color to your screen. While the old icon looked like it belonged to the internet for ages, the new design is for the new cool kids. The new design aims to cater to the new web aesthetics but sad that Insta fans are hating it.

With 400 million active users every month and 80 million photos shared every day, Instagram is the 10th most popular photo sharing app in the US. The camera icon had been rocking our phone screens ever since the app’s launch five years ago. From brands, visual artists and celebrities to teens, Instagram is the social media of choice for all when it comes to sharing photos. So no matter what you think of the new logo, the company knows that you are still going to use it and learn to love it gradually.
