A 17-year old Delhi girl committed suicide after failing twice in her class XI Chemistry exams. The girl left behind a note requesting her parents to donate her organs.
Reema Sood, who was an MBBS aspirant, lived with her family in north Delhi’s Maurice Nagar area. She failed in her Chemistry paper in class XI exam. Although she reappeared for the paper, she failed again the second time.
Reema’s body was first found by her relatives hanging from the water pipe in the bathroom ceiling at her residence. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead. The girl’s suicide note was recovered from her school bag that read, “I cannot live without any destination… Sorry Papa I failed to be your good daughter… Don’t blame anybody for my extreme step… Papa my last wish is to donate my organs to needy persons… (Sic)”
However, as the girl’s suicide note was recovered a day after her death, only her eyes could be donated. Other organs could not be donated as they had become useless due to the delay said the police. “We don’t know who will be the beneficiaries of my daughter’s eyes. But whosoever gets the eyes, we will track him or her for sure and remain in touch for life,” said her father.
Police found during investigations that the organ donation papers were signed by 11 of the girl’s relatives. Reema’s mother, Mamta Rani, who was at home when the incident happened, was busy in household work and had no idea that the girl had locked herself up in the bathroom. Her father is an employee in the Patel Chest Institute. Just a day after her death, the girl’s traumatised parents had to be admitted to the hospital as well.
Reema, who signed her suicide note as ‘future doctor’ wanted to get her answer sheets rechecked as she was confident about clearing the exam.
