The Cricketer Who Used To Be A Diamond Trader Was Forced To Wash Buses For A living

Chris Cairns, the mercurial ex-all rounder of New Zealand Cricket team saw an abrupt end to his career due to match fixing allegations. The cricketer who used to be in the business of diamonds was forced to wash bus stands to pay huge legal bills.

 

Chris Cairns is renowned as one of the best all-rounders to have played the game for the Black Caps. Cairns had played various match winning knocks for New Zealand and was known for his big hitting down the order. As a medium fast bowler, his swing and seam had turned various matches in favour of the Black Caps. He is also the 4th highest wicket taker for his country.

 

Chris Cairns had shifted to Dubai after retiring from Cricket in 2006 and established a diamond business. He witnessed a lot of success in that business. However, his world came crashing down when Indian cricket administrator Lalit Modi dragged his name in the match fixing controversy in 2010. He blamed Cairns for match fixing in the short lived Indian Cricket League (ICL). Chris fought a long legal battle and was successful in clearing his name by the end of 2015.
