This Student Lived In Penthouse And Bought Designer Bags After $4.6M Was Wrongly Put In Her Account

A 21-year-old Malaysian student has pleaded not guilty after she was accused of spending 4.6 Australian dollars on a shopping spree when a bank had mistakenly deposited an unlimited overdraft into her account.

Christine Lee Jia Xin had been living in a sub-penthouse apartment with Sydney Harbour Bridge views before her arrest and her lawyer Hugo Aston told reporters that she was confident that his client will be freed against the charges dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Sydney immigrant officials had arrested Lee while attempting to board a flight to Malaysia.

The chemical engineering student became an overnight millionaire following an error by Westpac bank due to which she was given the unlimited overdraft in 2012.

Lee was allegedly aware of the unlimited overdraft and spent 4.6 million Australian dollars over the following 11 months.
