5 Newborns Turned Blue Due To Infection At Delhi’s LNJP Hospital; Inquiry Suggests Discarded Injection Used

Attributed to medical apathy, five newborn babies have turned blue due to infection at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Delhi. Doctors have suspected that the babies were treated with discarded antibiotic injections.

The episode came to light on Wednesday, when doctors took note of the babies’ blue faces; they shifted the newborns to the ICU for observation.

One of the babies has died, but doctors have not credited the death to the expired medication.

Dr JC Passey, LNJP Hospital's Director, told a daily "The preliminary inquiry suggests that a discarded injection was given to the babies.”

It is a matter of concern that even in the city's ‘world-class’ healthcare institutes such incidents happen.
