Indian Railways : Coverage of National Rail Museum, New Delhi : The National Rail Museum is a museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi which focuses on the rail heritage of India it opened on the 1 February 1977. It is located in over 10 acres (40,000 m2) of land with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. A toy train offers rides around that site on regular days.Museum remains open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm (Last entry 4.30 pm) Tuesday to Sunday. Museum remains closed on every Monday and National Holidays. The Indoor Gallery is now fully renovated and opened to the public.
The Museum collection is the largest collection of Railway real life size exhibits and other rail components in the country. The Museum houses locomotives and coaches from the princely states across the Indian Subcontinent. The Patiala State Mono Rail (PSMT) and the John Morris Fire Engine are the rarest operational exhibits of its kind in the world.
The Museum houses documents, maps, drawings, books and other documentation belonging to the more than 160 years of Indian Railway.
