Man Commits Suicide near High-security Zone in Delhi

A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near Parliament, considered to be one of the most high-security zones in Delhi.
 
According to reports, the body was found hanging from a tree at Vijay Chowk near the parking lot for the media at around 7 am.
 
The 39-year-old man has been identified as Ram Dayal Verma, a native of Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh. He is believed to have taken this extreme step during the wee hours on Thursday morning.
 
The police has also recovered a 23-page suicide note from his possession along with a bag. According to reports, the suicide note hints that he was under debt because of cricket betting.
 
"The reason behind his suicide is not known yet. We are also trying to get in touch with police authorities in Madhya Pradesh so that his family can be contacted," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal said.
 
Police didn’t suspect any foul play into the incident but has sent his body to RML Hospital for postmortem.
 
Delhi police is in touch with their Madhya Pradesh counterparts to find his family.
 
According to police, the area for suicide was chosen to get maximum attention. Such an incident at the heavily-guarded Vijay Chowk could also raise speculations of security lapse.
 
The area has some of the most important government buildings in the capital besides the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament.
