Rain Brings Relief to the Scorching Capital; 1 Killed as Signboard Collapses in Noida

Thunderstorm and rain lashed Delhi and NCR on 23rd May as temperature came plummeting to 33 degrees Celcius. Last week, people in the capital were highly troubled by the heat wave sweeping North India and other regions of the country. However, it also led to a death of one person while two others were critically injured after a signboard collapsed near DLF Mall of India in Noida’s Sector 18. Thunderstorm’s effect was also felt in Meerut after 3 people were injured by a collapsed hoarding.

The thunderstorm and rain were also accompanied by dust storm and Delhi residents welcomed the change in weather. Several areas in West Delhi saw light rain. Meanwhile, Faridabad residents witnessed light rain and dust storm, Gurugram experienced some hailstorm activity.

Light thunder showers also delighted people to a vast extent as they were highly troubled by the adverse heat. As per the weather department, the capital will witness more weather activity on 24th May also. More light rain is expected to bring cheers to people in the Delhi-NCR regions. The residents can also expect respite from humidity as overnight showers have brought the mercury down by a few notches.

Rainfall was also experienced in parts of Punjab and Haryana as dust storm also hit various places. Uttarakhand bore the brunt of heavy rainfall and landslides also occurred in the state.

People in Delhi, however, were delighted with the rain despite hardships such as rush hour traffic, waterlogged and clogged roads amongst others. The heat had become unbearable in the last few weeks and temperature had crossed 45 degrees Celcius on some occasions.

The weather department has predicted that presence of a western disturbance over J&K and neighbourhood keeps chances of light to moderate rain alive at different places.

This should lighten the mood of Delhi residents as they seek solace from searing heat.
