A Gay Couple Undertake Traditional South Indian Engagement While Love Conquers All

Love is the supreme feeling which transcends boundaries and nationalities. Magical love stories however are not restricted to books and movies only, they can be witnessed in real life too. The love story of Salapathy Rao, a third generation Malaysian Indian, settled in Melbourne, Australia and his boyfriend John Mc Cane from Ohio, USA is the stuff through which dreams are made of.

 

John and Salapathy met on a Facebook group for LGBT Hindus and today they are happily engaged. They have dated for the past 3 years and their story is one of love overcoming all differences and issues.

 

As Rao was in Melbourne and Mc Cane in USA, they came together to meet in India. Their love for travelling and the Hindu religion also helped them settle for India as a meeting point.

 

The couple overcame cultural differences and the average couple problems once they spent some quality time together. As per Mc Cane he became pretty ill while staying in Delhi and it was Rao who took care of him. It was during this period that their relationship was strengthened and they both decided to pursue a life together.

 

Rao had proposed to Mc Cane in Ohio and they had got officially engaged in a temple. Recently, they had an official engagement and followed the Telugu tradition of completing the ceremony. The couple has decided to be married sometime next year and aspire to spend their lives together in the US.

 

The two lovebirds aspire to be of some service to the LGBT community. They aspire to prepare a sustainable, eco-friendly temple and ashram which will be an inclusive place and all sorts of people constituting the LGBT ones will be accepted there. Further, it will be a place where LGBT couples could easily enjoy a traditional wedding and engagement without feeling the prejudices of the society.
