Three players – Yuzvendra Chahal, Karun Nair, and KL Rahul – made ODI debuts for India during the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe, but it was opener Lokesh Rahul who hogged all the limelight by becoming the first Indian to score a hundred on One-Day International debut.
Rahul opened the innings with Nair – the first pair since 1976 to open the innings on debut.
After starting his innings cautiously on a difficult pitch, Rahul completed his coveted three-figure landmark with a huge six over deep mid-wicket off seamer Hamilton Masakadza, when there was only two runs required to win the match.
Not only this, Rahul also became the highest individual scorer on debut eclipsing Robin Uthappa's 86 against England on his ODI debut in Indore, back in 2006.
Rahul became the 11th cricketer in the list of some of the most talented batsmen from around the world who hit a ton in their debut match.
