The Devastating Iraq War In Pictures Where Millions Lost Their Lives

The 2003 Iraq War was mired in controversies and brought huge infamy to ex US President George Bush and the then UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. The protracted armed conflict began when a United States led coalition invaded Iraq and killed millions.

US fought the war on the rationale of weapons of mass destruction being present in the country. However, nothing of that sort came to anyone’s notice during and after the war.

George Bush wanted to depose the ex President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein and thus thrust an useless war on the people of Iraq. Although Saddam was executed in 2006 for crimes against humanity, it does not absolve the US of its war crimes.

The war remains a blot on humanity due to the excesses committed by the invading forces. Iraq War Inquiry Committee’s Chairman John Chilcot’s recently submitted report has heavily criticized UK’s role in the Iraq War. This in turn has also led to a

downfall in Tony Blair’s image.

Blair’s whole term is remembered for his decision to go alongside the United States in the Iraq War. Critics have even labeled him as a puppet of the Bush regime.

The Iraq war was one of the most devastating wars in human history and led to massive destruction.

US armed forces were able to occupy all the major cities of Iraq within 21 days in the one sided war.

As per reports, nearly 1,09,032 people died in the war. Amongst those killed 66,081 were Iraqi civilians whereas 23,984 were part of resistance forces.

Apart from them, the Iraqi army and the coalition army also lost 15,196 and 3,771 soldiers respectively.

The Iraq war invited huge criticism for George Bush and US intelligence agencies. Moreover, Bush was even forced to accept the war as his biggest mistake.
