Caught on Camera: 47-feet-long Blue Whale Rescued off Maharashtra Coast

A 47-feet long blue whale, which was stuck on shores in Maharashtra's coastal Konkan for two days, has been successfully put back in the deep waters after a 6-hour long rescue operation.

The whale had drifted into shallow waters near the Jaitapur power plant in Ratnagiri district.

According to reports, a rescue operation was carried, which included over 50 people on two boats, to pull the massive animal back into the sea and took them over six hours to complete the task.

"The whale appeared emaciated and must have drifted some days ago. But since this is an isolated spot, it was spotted on Saturday and we were informed by the locals," N Vasudevan, chief conservator, mangrove conservation cell, said.

This is the second successful rescue of a blue whale in the same region, he said.
