Sharing Birthday with Bapu: This 6 Feet Tall Athlete Was Forced to Retire Then an Offer Brought More Fame

Prachi Tehlan has gone through three phases in her life — of a sports person, a corporate employee and an actress. But latter two weren’t pre-planned decision. Prachi, who turns 27 today, started off her sports career as a basketball player at National level while still studying in school before moving on to play netball. But her time on the court of both the games was short-lived.

Under Prachi’s captaincy the Indian Netball Team represented the country in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and in other major Asian Championships in 2010-11. And the Indian team that won its first medal in 2011 South Asian Beach Games was captained by her.

But she announced her retirement from the sport as it wasn’t seen as a viable option in the country to make a living.

This later prompted her to even write an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to put a structure in place for such sports to nurture the talent of the girls which was going in vain.

She graduated in B.Com (Hons.) from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi and completed her PG Diploma in Marketing Management from IMT, Ghaziabad. She had enrolled in Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, GGSIP University, Delhi where she completed her Post Graduation in MBA (HR and Marketing).

Prachi then went on to work on various projects in Development Bank of Singapore, Deloitte, Accenture and 1800Sports.in, this was the second phase of her life – as an corporate employee.

But it was the third phase of her life that made her a household name that came in an offer which she couldn't resist. The director of 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' TV show that aired on Star Plus one day approached Prachi with the role of Arzoo Rathi on offer.
