This Year’s Nobel Peace Prize Winner Presided Over a Failed Peace Deal! And This was His Award Money…

This year's Nobel Peace Prize Winner is  65-year-old Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos. His claim to the award? A failed peace treaty with country's left-wing rebels called FARC guerrillas.

In August, Colombian government and the FARC inked a final peace deal. But the people of Colombia rejected this deal a week ago in a referendum by a 50.2-49.8 margin. That's why this Nobel prize comes as a surprise to many.

Santos, however, accepted the prize graciously on behalf of Colombian people! The region of southern Colombia has suffered terribly during the 50-year war with leftist guerrillas. The policital thinktank is now hoping that this Nobel announcement could be the spark that moves the peace process along.
