The A-Z of college admissions in New Delhi
General notes
A common admission form is being issued by the University of Delhi, which can be used for applying for admission in any of the Courses/colleges. This prospectus containing the form can be obtained from any of the information centres at the cost of Rs.30 each. CERTIFICATE and PHOTOGRAPHS are not required while submitting the application for admission. However, at the time of admission 3 photographs and original certificates are required. The student whose name appears in the admission list of who qualifies on the basis of the percentage indicated in the list must present himself/herself for payment of fees by the date and time stipulated.

The following certificates are required at the time of admission:
Marksheet
Provisional Certificate
Secondary Certificate (10th Class)
SC/ST Certificate (if any)
Other certificates as per the respective college requirement

Subject to availability of seats, admission will be made by the regular colleges upto 14th August 2008
i. No student shall be denied admission on the basis of Gap period
ii. Rounding of fraction of marks is not permissible.
iii. Marks of oral test shall be excluded for working out the percentage of marks in four subjects.
iv. Candidates passing 10+2 examination or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with Physical Science/ General Science, Physics with Chemistry as one subject will be considered eligible for registration/ admission to the B.Sc (Hons.) courses on individual merit.
v. No relaxation in any of the minimum eligibility conditions is permissible.

For students of General Category for admission in regular colleges
i. The student should fill and submit, either a common admission form, issued by the Delhi University or college admission form, issued by each college separately, within the dates.
ii. Common admission forms are available at university information centres or at any of the DU admission centres at the cost of Rs.10 each.
iii. Students can use the cut-off list of last year of various colleges for selecting the colleges and courses of their choice.
iv. After filling the form, the student should wait for the First Cut off List. If his/her name appears or his/her marks lie within the percentage limit of the college, he should submit the fee in that college before the second list or dates issued by the University.
v. If the student’s name appears in any of the second, third or fourth list in some other college or course of his/her choice, he/she can get admission in that college (if he/she had applied) and can withdraw his/her fee from the previous college with some minor cuts.
vi. The student should keep the counter slip of the admission form carefully and should note down the course and college applied against the number or counter slip.

For students of SC/ST category admission in regular colleges
i. 22 ½ per cent seats of the total number of seats are reserved for SC/ST category students in the University.
ii. Students of this category need not apply separately in different colleges, but they have to register their names at any one of the University Registration Centres, i.e.
Sports Complex, opposite University cricket ground, North CampusSouth Campus, Office of Deputy DSW
Bhim Rao Ambedkar College
Rajdhani College, Raja Garden
iii. Dates of registration are 1st June to 15th June, 2008 (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, excluding Sunday)
iv. At the time of registration, students should have the following original certificates as well as two attested/ Photostat copies thereof.
Provisional certificate of Senior Secondary Certificate examination (SSCE)
Marksheet of SSCE
SC/ST certificate (Original of the candidate) from any of the prescribed officers
v. Students should bring SC/ST certificates issued in their own name.
vi. The original certificate will be returned to the candidate after endorsement on the Photostat of the certificate.
vii. 5 per cent relaxation in the minimum marks will be given to the candidates. In case, after giving the relaxation the reserved seats still remain vacant, a further relaxation will be given to the extent requited in order to fill up all the reserved seats.
viii. If sufficient numbers of such candidates are not forthcoming, the seats shall be filled up by other candidates with the specific prior approval of the University.

Reservation of seats for children/ widows/wives/officers & Men of the Armed forces including Paramilitary personnel, killed/disabled in action or those who died/were disabled on duty
i. 5 per cent of total numbers of seats are reserved in each course for students of this category.
ii. Students of this category have to register at any of the following University Registration Centres:
* Faculty of Science (for Science courses and Room no 220, New Administrative Block (for other courses), North Campus
iii. Dates of registration are 1st June to 15th June, 2008 (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, excluding Sunday)
iv. Students should apply with the required certificates in original as well as two attested/Photostat copies thereof.

Admission in Regular College on the basis of Sports and Extra Curricular Activity
i. 5 per cent seats of total number of seats in each course are reserved for sports person.
ii. Students of this category have to apply through common admission form or college admission form separately for each course and each college.
iii. Students should write ‘Sports’ or ‘Cultural’ in bold letter on the top of the form.
iv. Students should clearly mention their achievements in the form.
v. Photostat copies of the certificates of sports, cultural meets should be attached with the form along with a photograph.
vi. Students should contact each college separately to know the date of trial as it differs in every college.
vii. Level of competency in sports will be determined only if the candidate has achieved distinction during the last three years.
viii. Admission is given on the basis of a merit list prepared by each college separately on the basis of certificate and personal performance of students.

Reservation of seats for Physically Challenges Candidates
i. 3 per cent seats are reserved for the physically challenged candidates for admission to under graduate courses.
ii. Physically challenged candidates who secure admission on merit in general category should not be counted in 3 per cent quota.
iii. The other modalities will be made available separately and when finalized in this regard.
iv. Registration of the physically challenged candidates will be done only at the office of the Dean, Student Welfare (North Campus), from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. between 1st to 15th June, 2008. Prescribed preliminary application form will be available at the same office.

For students of Nepal in Regular colleges
Relaxation to the extent of 5 per cent in the minimum marks will be given to the nominee
of Nepal Government/ Royal Government of Bhutan.
For students of Sikkim in Regular Colleges
The number of sets as detailed below are reserved for students from Sikkim in colleges where hostel facilities are available.

Foreign Students, admission in Regular College
i. At least 5 per cent seats in first year of each course in colleges are reserved for foreign students.
ii. This reservation will not apply to those foreign students who have passed the qualifying exam from an Indian Board/ University
iii. Foreign students are requited to apply to Foreign Students Advisor c/o Faculty of management Studies, University of Delhi-110007

Compartment candidates
i. Compartment student may be given provisional admission in regular colleges, school of Open Learning, Non-Formal Education Cell and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board if they obtain the required minimum percentage of marks in the aggregate by adding minimum pass marks of the subject in which he/she got compartment.
ii. If the student fails to appear or fails to pass the compartment exam, then his/her admission will be cancelled.
iii. Compartment students who are not eligible for provisional admission may, after clearing their compartment exam and securing at least 40 per cent marks; be admitted in a college before the prescribed last date.
Reservation of Seats for other backward classes
The University and its colleges will abide by the directions of the Ministry of Human Resources Development as and when received.

Age Limit
i. For admission, students should be seventeen on 1st October in the year of admission
ii. The Vice-Chancellor may relax this age limit up to a minimum period of one year.
iii. To get this relaxation, the student should write an application in the name of VD, Delhi and it should be forwarded by the Principal of the college.
iv. This relaxation will be given after admission.

Admission in School of Open Learning
i. BA (Hons.) English/ Political Science and B.Com. (Hons.) courses are available a the School of Open Learning
ii. Last date of admission in correspondence course 31st October 2008

Admission in Non-Formal Education cell
