India tops the list of countries that believe in superstitious activities. Several names amongst the list of self-styled godmen, saints, preachers and gurus in India have been trapped in different controversies. Primarily, one reason that has trapped them all is about sexual harassment charges. However, in spite of making their deeds public, we still have a countless number of followers who believe in them blindly.

Asaram Bapu
74-year-old Asaram Bapu tops the list of controversial gurus in India. He is under the judicial custody since September 2013 following the charges of sexually harassment by a 16-year-old at his ashram in Rajasthan.

Before his arrest, Asaram Bapu, fondly called as ‘Bapu ji’ by his followers made controversial remarks on the ‘Nirbhaya gang rape’ case where he blamed the deceased for not begging her rapists to leave her alone.

Radhe Maa
Self-styled god-woman Radhe Maa is the latest controversial queen to join the league. After her images in hot-red short skirt went viral on social media, she was trolled on Twitter by different sectors of the society. 50-year-old Radhe Maa was then slapped with dowry charges by a young woman. She accused Radhe Maa of influencing her parents in law who followed her to demand dowry.

Soon after Radhe Maa was slapped with the dowry charges, she was then accused of sexual harassment charges by Bollywood actress Dolly Bindra who once followed her religiously. The former Bigg Boss contestant claimed that Radhe Maa forced her to have sex with a stranger. She also said that Radhe Maa’s son has taken off his clothes in front of her.

Model Arshi Khan then followed Dolly Bindra and accused Radhe Maa of running a sex racket. She claimed that she was asked by one of Radhe Maa’s agents to join the racket that she runs.

Swami Nithyananda
The trouble for Swami Nithyananda started after a video went viral on Tamil TV channels where he was spotted in a compromising position with a local actress. Denying his identity in the clip, Swami Nithyananda claimed that the video was morphed. The incident led to major protest outside Nithyananda’s ashram while his followers maintained that their guru was innocent and the video was an attempt to defame him.

Apart from this, Nithyananda was also accused of rape by an Indian born American citizen; however, he yet another time denied all allegations against him.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh
The spiritual leader at the Dera Sacha Sauda has led his organization to several Guinness World Records. He was charged in a rape case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Dera head had been charged with sexually assaulting women followers of the Dera at the sect’s Sirsa-based headquarters.

Premananda
Swami Premananda of Tiruchirapally ashram in Tamil Nadu was charged of raping13 women. Apart from this, Premananda was also accused of having killed a Sri Lankan male. The medical tests conducted confirmed the habitual rape of 13 girls.
