Father Drapes Himself In The Shroud Which Covered His Son’s Body, Protests Against Drug Abuse In Punjab

A father in Punjab, Mukhtiar Singh is protesting in a unique way against drug addiction in the state. The heart touching story of the father who lost his son to drug overdose on March 26 this year will bring tears to one’s eyes.

Mukhtiar Singh, a resident of Patti in Tarn Taran district of Punjab has chosen the most uncommon way to protest against the illegal selling of drugs in Punjab. He protests while covering himself with the shroud, which was used to drape his son’s body when he was carried to the sub-divisional-magistrate’s (SDM) office upon being declared dead.

He, however did not stay quiet and has resolved to fight against rampant drug abuse in the state. Further, he insists that if someone dies due to drug overdose, the authorities should list drugs as the cause of death in a person’s death certificate.

As per Mukhtiar, he had to forcefully write ‘heroin, smack injection’ separately in the application while declaring his son’s death before the municipal council. He has alleged that the authorities display complete insensitivity and doesn’t let the relatives of the deceased person write the names of drugs which led to the death of the concerned person.

Whereas, on the one hand, the movie Udta Punjab has displayed the huge problem of drug overdose in the state, this 47 year old father’s painful story has also come to the limelight.

Mukhtiar, who is a linesman working with Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd., always covers himself in his son’s burial clothes and visits the SDM’s office in case a death occurs due to drug abuse.
